Tiger Moms Stalking the Wrong Path?
Many of the moms I know, myself included, have listened to the Tiger Mom perspective with a raised eyebrow. In my role at the Children’s Museum, I’ve seen studies that suggest extreme emphasis on educational content mastery, especially at the preschool level and often to the exclusion of free play, can actually have a negative impact on future educational attainment.
The following article appeared last night on CNN by Princeton professor Ann-Marie Slaughter. She does a great job of describing the value of giving children (and everybody!) time for free play. Creativity and innovation are the drivers of our economy – so let’s give our children a chance to build those skills with a great day at the Children’s Museum and every day!
